The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.
Ramboda Falls is 109m high and 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 729th highest waterfall in the world. It is situated in Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. It formed by Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. Altitude of the falls is 945m above sea level. Tea Factory & Tea Plantation.
Ambuluvava, is the backyard mountain of Gampola in Sri Lanka’s highlands. At an elevation of 1087 above sea level and 700 m above Gampola town in the Mahaweli river valley, the Ambuluwawa mountain hosts a new tourist spot including a biodiversity complex and Sri Lanka’s first multi-religious sanctuary. The landmark of the Ambuluawa temple complex is a large winding tower resembling a stylized Buddhist stupa.
Located 5 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya. The temple is located in the village of Seetha Eliya. This place is believed the location where Sita, the wife of Rama, was held captive by Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Hindu epic, Ramayana, also because she refused to stay in Ravana’s palace and preferred to stay under the Ashoka tree, hence the name “Ashok Vatika” It was here that Ravana’s wife Mandodari came to meet her and also where Hanuman met her for the first time, and identified himself with the finger ring of Rama There is a stream by the side of the temple. It is believed that Sitadevi bathed in the stream and It is interesting to note that foot prints akin to Lord Hanuman’s are found on the rocks along this river and some are of small size and some are of large size, which indicating the immense power of Lord Hanuman trans forming himself into any size. It is also unique in a way that it is one of the very few temples dedicated to Seetha.
